Italy Wedding 2021 – Pisa, Italy 8/30/21

Lucca, Italy – Grande Universe Hotel 8/30/2021

Pisa side trip. We had a pretty good tourist plan today. Headed to the Field of Miracles. We wanted to visit the leaning tower and the duomo. Nick had pre purchased our train ticket but we were ready early. So we headed over to see if we can take an earlier train. This was not a problem as the Italians don’t keep strict to a train schedule and no one checked our tickets.

A cool building by the entry of Lucca.
Nicks next new toy.
This I’m calling Photo Op!!!!
Nick loves trains. His first real job was at a train station with his Dad.
Nick read the paper on the train – makes me feel like we are working.
Masks on public transportation.
Once we arrived we took the typical photos!
Nick was pushing the tower over.
When these Bronze doors were installed in 1336 they were the most highly prized images in the city of Pisa.
The Pisa Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary! The church was erected outside Pisa’s early medieval walls, to show that Pisa had no fear of being attacked.
The Baptistery is 55 meters high and is the largest one in Italy. It’s a good example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style architecture.
This is Nick in front of the cemetery. On the map it looked like it might be outdoors but it was a building.
Inside the cemetery. Intricate caskets that were often reused by people.
The Duomo.
This is now a museum but it used to serve as a hospital.
There were lots of cafes to pick from – Nick wanted ragu!
Lunch in Pisa!
Wine too small for Nick.
Pisa doors
Just magnificent!
The walk through Pisa showed us a beautiful and young city!
Near the University
The River that served as an important connection to the Mediterranean Sea.

As we waited (inside a building) in line to buy ticket we were smooched up against others! Then we got to talking to the attendants see waited and we realized then that we forgot our vaccination cards. we could wait for over an hour (that’s how long the line was) inside the museum to buy tickets but we couldn’t buy them to view the museum because we didn’t have a green card or proof of vaccination. So we headed back to beautiful Lucca!

The small hidden entryway to get inside Lucca that we only found because we followed others.
This is on top of the wall.
Cocktail hour! My drink was an Aperol spritzer and Nick had a Lemoncello Spritzer! I got mine because I was inspired by my friend Martyn Jenkins!
More Mellon with prosciutto!

My Dad ate a lot of the very items that are so prevalent in Lucca! And this is one of them!

We were up sold by the waiter!

After enjoying an amazing steak dinner we walked it off and headed home for an early night.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
