La Spezia, Italy – The Poet Hotel. 8/26/2021
This hotel was built in the 13th century on top of early Christian temple. It is named after the poet Shelley who lived in La Spezia and likely drew some inspiration from the town and it’s beautiful views. Today it is home of a large Italian Navy station. It is also a major port for goods importing and exporting.

It was a busy day getting to see La Spezia! We drove around to get the feel for the town that seems to be at the heart of Cinque Terre.

For dinner we decided to seek out Riomaggiore. It is one of the 5 lands (Cinque Terre). The town doesn’t allow many vehicles inside it so we had to park just outside to main area. Via Columbo is the Main Street that goes down towards the marina and the Via dell Amore (Lovers Lane). We chose to go on the high road to find a restaurant for dinner. I don’t think there was a bad view up there.

Great day! On our walk back up the steep hill I understood why this vehicle was at the top.

Looks like it is going to be a great trip. I’m jealous. Just to nervous to fly and to be in Europe. Safe travels.
