Day three @ Hawks Cay in Duck Key, FL

The morning started out strange. I woke up and noticed only 2 electric scooters on the dock and there were 3 last night and they were all locked together with a bike lock. 1 of the 3 was in the water pulling at the other 2 begging for them to join. So we pulled it out by the bike lock and dried it off and put it in the cockpit while storing the other 2 away.  Then we started packing up and getting ready to shove off. Nick was walking around the boat while pulling out – using the Yacht Controller. I was making sure the fenders were inside when I smelled something terrible. The electric scooter was smoking in the front and the back. I picked it up to move it to the swim platform when it exploded! Luckily I was wearing jeans so that protected me! Then I dropped the scooter and it’s final resting place is the bottom of slip 117 in Marco Island Yacht Club. Photo of the mess. The flooring weathered the explosion well – mostly just a water rinse cleaned it.

Then we were off to Duck Key FL. The sea was very calm which allowed me to enjoy the view from the back cockpit. Crab pots weren’t bad and we noticed great fuel efficiency at 25 mph. Getting into Hawks isn’t for the faint of heart. And couldn’t be accomplished without some skill!

The marina was hit hard by the recent hurricane so their is no store, no laundry and the only bathroom is in the spa.  We are really roughing here!  Luckily the adult pool and bar was open and ready for our group!

Dinner was compliments of Michelle and Jeff on the Breakaway II. She’s a great cook! She should be on an 11 episode cooking show!!!

Getting some well deserved R&R for a few days!!! Love this spot!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
