6/1/23 – Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom

We got breakfast in the Executive Lounge then enjoyed our coffee outside. Planning our day we decided to do the double decker bus because you can hop on and off! Get the lay of the land then make choices!

The friend of freedom!

The below pictures are from inside the Cardiff Central Market. It opened in May of 1891 – 132 years ago. At one entrance (St Mary Street) there used to be a hallow where they tied off boats and also hung people. Now you can find anything from fresh fish, cheese, fabric, yarn, books and maybe grab lunch! I got two Welch Cakes. They were warm and delicious ! One was an original and the other was lemon. I throughly enjoyed them!

The Cardiff market is the oldest used building in Wales.

Tonight from 7-10 —- we might be back!!!

Found the double decker bus. It was hop on and hop off and headphones gave you a nice brief story of the areas and buildings.

The site of the Cardiff Castle was originally used by the Romans as a fort and built around 55 AD and occupied until about 80 AD. Then William the Conqueror may have built a castle at Cardiff as early as 1081.

Look it’s Roald Dahl Place – which was a park.
John Crichton-Stuart build the Cardiff Docks. This building is sitting right near this docks.

Bute are large landowners in South Wales. They constructed the many docks here. 1913 Cardiff was the biggest coal producers in the world.

We got off at the National Museum just to tour it briefly and see the French art!
This is the museum’s claim to fame!

La Parisienne by Renior, 1874, of the model Henrietta Henriot.

A Monet in an amazing frame!
Because there is a dangerous step here.
What are they saying?

1997 the UK gave Wales more powers and helped them establish their own parliament.

Wales is known as The land of song and in 1905 the first national anthem was sung at a sporting event in Cardiff!

Whew! That was a lot of work! Let’s get an aperol spritz!
As we sat outside at this adorable spot we asked a few Welchmen to tell us if our jokes were funny. The humor is definitely different here!

These same Welchmen gave us a recommendation of going to Patures Restaurant for a great steak! It was fabulous!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
