Day 16 – 6/19/22 – TownePlace Suites Bourbon Trail, Louisville, KY – Summer Road-trip

This morning was an early start with breakfast at the Wild Eggs in downtown Louisville.

First stop was Makers Mark. My goto drink! We’ve heard that the land is beautiful and we found out there is very good reason.

The grounds are beautiful. This picture doesn’t do it justice.

The still make their bourbon they same exact way as they did when they started in 1953. The S IV circle that is on every bottle is a tribute to the founder T William and Margie Samuels. Margie was the one that came up with the name Makers Mark and she designed the label and chose to do the wax dip.

Most of the large vats we’ve seen are metal. Here many are wooden like these.
There is no rye in this whiskey only wheat and corn – which makes it sweeter and completely different than all others.
All the buildings looked like this one. Can you make out the bottle shape carved in the red shutters?
When the son got the company he was told not to screw it up. So he didn’t change a thing to the original but he did experiment to make a new better one. He numbered his experiments and he like number 46 best!
Love the old truck!
This is the room where there are ongoing experiments with their bourbon.
Gotta love the fancy tasting room!
Can you tell the building was build in the side of a mountain?
Tasting time!
There are angles in the ceiling that represent the “angels share”.
In line for the dip!
I bought some for the grill!
Jennifer and Mark got this for their service!
Real KY fried chicken! The carrots were made in the mash from the bourbon!
Late lunch at Makers Mark!
Makers even had a cat hanging out. I love this place!

Our next appointment wasn’t for a while so Mark said this Log Still might be a good stop. And it was!!!! We absolutely loved this place. They make Monks Road Gin and bourbon.

The bar area was really cool and opened to the outside.
Nick got a flight.
The outdoor patio overlooking the music venue.
We decided to go back next visit!

Next we had a tour and tasting at Bardstown Distillery. This place mostly made bourbon for other labels and they also stored bourbon for other distillery’s.

We loved their business model!
On the tour we got these cool headsets. I tried to sing on there but some people frowned upon it.
This is how they taste bourbon from the barrel.
Another fancy tasting room.

After the tasting and tour we hit the gift shop. Wow! I loved their gift shop.

We met some fun people at Bardstown that advised us to try Scout & Scholar for dinner. It was an adorable place in downtown Bardstown.

The car is getting pretty full.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
