Day 4 – 6/7/22 – Birmingham, MI – Summer Road-trip

What can I say…. We are back at golf and doing it at one of the best golf courses on the planet! Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan! It rained all night last night, I know because the Air BnB we got in Birmingham has a skylight right above the bed. (And no – there is no shade or cover for it.) We could not take a cart because of the rain so we walked 9 holes instead of playing 18. I actually love to walk the golf course, it puts me more in touch with my game. All in all the course wasn’t that wet and I had a pretty good day, even though neither one of us has played for over a month. During the round we got news that Chris was going to be pulling out the prop and the prop shaft on the boat and filling the hole. Since our insurance lapsed and we are hoping to get coverage before this event, we were a bit concerned about he boat during our round. Is this what they mean when they say you can’t be golfers and boaters?

After the round we went to the North halfway house for a bite. The small building and tiny kitchen was commandeered by the head chef of Oakland Hills! The erected a makeshift dinning room and several ladies groups seemed very comfortable playing Majong and cards. We had a delicious meal and it wasn’t a hot dog. (Everyone that knows me knows I only eat hot dogs on the golf course and at baseball games.)

My Dad always said “Lick your lips” instead of “Say Cheese”. Nick always runs his fingers through his hair. I guess we all have our routines before a photo is taken.
This is on the bridge that connects the South course and club area with the North course. The building you see is the First Tee or Club Shack. It’s where they take tee times, the starter has an office and people store their golf bags, as well as the caddy central. Behind the building is a big patio that is strickly for the caddy’s to relax, it overlooks the 1st tee of the South. I have heard they are using it for members now.
This is a view from the bridge over Maple Street looking toward Hole 1 on South. Looks like the new pickleball courts!
Such a sad sad scene!

So at the end of the day I was exhausted but I had to check out the sale at Carl’s Golfland! This place is like Disneyworld for golfers!

A great day on the course! And we spoke to many employees about their experience. I like what one valet said to me, “It’s time to start planning for the next 100 years.” Oakland Hills just celebrated their 100 years of existence back in 2017. He’s right! I just hope they design a sauna for the ladies locker room as well as the mens!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
