Day 28 – 5/22/22 – Stock Island Marina Village, Stock Island, Key West, FL

We got an early start and headed to the Tennessee Williams museum. It’s very close to Duval Street so the parking was rough but we love “A Streetcar Named Desire” so we had to check this one off the list. Boy – it’s small!

Tennessee was actually Tom. He wasn’t from Tennessee – I don’t think he even lived there. He was given that nickname in college at the U of Iowa. His poetry was amazing! I could read it all day!

His awards were many! I was surprised at this!
His list of plays and poems and short stories was long. He is said to have written over 700 one act plays. This surprised us and we both want to dive into some of those books!
Jane was also a writer and friend of Williams. Tennessee stayed in her house in Key West.
These are playbills from all over the world!

Tennessee had many famous writer friends and was asked about a friendship with Hemingway. He said that they never had much in common to talk about.

Tennessee was a homosexual and had a few serious relationships. The main one was with Frank Merlo. He called Frank his little horse and wrote this poem about him. Years later when Frank died – Tennessee fell into a deep depression.

Growing up Tennessee was very close with his sister Rose. In one part of the museum it said the Tennessee did not know about the lobotomy performed on Rose and in another part of the museum it said he regretted agreeing to the lobotomy. In any case, Tennessee bought Rose and her caregiver a house in Key West so he could be close to her. The house was a former officer home on the Navy base that they moved to an empty lot near Higgs beach. They positioned the house on an angle which was odd.

We drove out to fine the house. It was beautiful! Really adorable!

After a long day of learning about Tennessee we watched the hockey game on TV at 1:30! Bolts win against the Panthers! Then we can headed to the tiki bar for happy hour and backgammon.

Tonight was watched Ozarks and played scrabble. Tough game. Nick was ahead the whole time until the very end.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
