Day 6 – 3/11/22 – Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali – Sunshine Helicopter Tour

OMG! So I guess I’m doing this. Nick called a few days ago – just to get information and before I knew it he was giving them a credit card and reserving our seats. Now here we are. We woke up early grabbed some breakfast and we headed out so that we’d arrive at the 8:15 required time.

No worries! I studied this poster!
That’s our bird!
All strapped in and ready to go!
The road to Hana!
That is the road to Hana!9
The first of many waterfalls. The pilot told us this was park of the wall of tears because when it rains many waterfalls appear.
This is another portion of the road to Hana.

Maui’s coastline is just spectacular! As we went in and out of valleys around the island I could hardly imagine being here with no motor vehicles and really very small communities.

This was Maui’s tallest waterfall!
This baby humpback whale was showing off doing dives in the water for us. I didn’t get it on camera but I saw it!!!

We started to fly to Moloka’i after the whale watching. Moloka’i used to be a Leprosy Colony starting in 1865. In 1905 it was recorded that over 5,800 people were there. Including Father Damien from Belgium. He arrived in 1873 and found about 800 people living in squalor. He began building them homes and creating a colony for them. But after only 3 years he contracted it too. He lived on the island for almost 17 years and died there.

Moloka’i is nicknamed the friendly island.
As you can see, the island is pretty desolate.
There isn’t much of a population there, only about 7k residences.

Then during the return we saw more of the working end of Maui.

OGG the airport.

Once we were done we had the whole day to relax at the pool and hot tub! It was such a thrill – sitting by the pool was the perfect choice. Besides – we have the Luau tonight!

The music was mostly native stuff. It was really calming and relaxing.
Way less people than the last time we were here!
The costume changes were frequent and crazy!

It was a great day! I had no idea I’d enjoy the helicopter as much as I did! The luau was a great show. The poi was ehhhh.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
