Italy Wedding 2021 – Italian Riviera to French Riviera Drive

Nice, France – Le Méridien Hotel 9/4/2021

This morning started even slower than other mornings.

Had to exit the room

Once we successfully got our luggage in the car we had to move it to a blue parking spot. Nick wanted to go back to his favorite spot for lunch and get his favorite meal…

This is Nicks favorite restaurant in all of Lucca!
Nick got his usual – spaghetti Carbonara!
Lasagna! Best I have ever had!!!!

Once John and Jody texted us we decided to wait for them – the server walked past with this, so I ordered it for our hungry sleeper-in couple.

I could not resist! Delicious!!!
The boys took the rainy seats!

It was time to say arrivederci!!! I’m hoping they have a blast in Florence and Rome! It’s great weather for touring Italy!

John and Jody’s Italian adventure begins!

And off we were to the French Riviera!

This is just the highway from Lucca!
The Tuscan Countryside.
The Alps!!!

Now the first major destination is Genova or Genoa as we call it. This was where Nicks parents climbed onto a boat hoping to reach Canada and escape communist Hungary. They had lost everything when the Russian Communist party took over. They were poor and had only the hopes of Canada to dream they could find a life there for their two sons.

We had to ponder what he route they travelled to this town.

It wasn’t too long on our journey and we were rerouted to a seaside road. The bridge connected Milan to Turin within Genova had collapsed back in 2019. It killed 43 people and it happened during a terrible summer storm. It turns out the rebar inside the concrete failed and that was likely the cause. Anyways, that is why we were rerouted because this bridge is not yet reopened. Such a sad story. But for us – it made us view this route from the beautiful and quaint seaside towns.

They were pretty and also filled with pedestrians!
I’m not certain, but I think that is a quarry ahead of us. Isn’t Carrera Mable found in this region?

There was some notification signs that told us we were entering France but no border stop at all.

No stopping when we went through Monoco either!

Once we found our hotel in Nice it was heaven! The junior suite seemed smaller than expected but the wrap around patio more than made up for it!!!

The view looking down.

We decided to venture out and get some food. Nick found a ‘Nicolas’ liquor store and stocked up for our stay.

Then we headed to Vieux Nice. Old Nice is very quaint!

This is Nick talking to every restaurant to see if they had his favorite oysters!
This sauce was very thick. Neither one of us liked it. But the shrimp were delicious!

On our walk back we noticed several cars like this one. There must be a race in town? Another great day and loved seeing all the scenery!!!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
