Day 225 @ Sandestin Baytowne Marina, Miramar Beach, Florida – The Great Loop

11/9/19

We headed out to meet up with our Tampa friends Annette and Greg. My Moms obit was finalized and the services will be held Nov 22/23. I mention it because I had an Aunt Annette and she is the only one of my Mothers siblings to pass away before her. Mom was the oldest of 5 born from 2 German immigrants. They always woke up early and almost always made breakfast! So here we are at Another Broken Egg for a fancy omelette. I brought along my travel cup that the waitress gave me two days ago. She remembered me and was surprised I had the cup but more surprised I wanted to reuse it when I left.

They are working on the Christmas decorations and setting up the bandshell for something fun! There is always something happening in this “Village “.

Shopping I found these and immediately thought of my friend Linda in Arizona. She would love these!

View from our friends condo. They had a great view of the beach, the fountain and at least 3 golf holes! Really spectacular!

Rooftop of the building had a perfect view of the beach!!!

Nick won’t hold still for a photo.

Yep – there is the Crown Vic! No no – my great great grandma isn’t here. It’s our buddy from Tampa pulling up to give us a ride.

Then we got to the Destin Proper area. What a blast! There was a BBQ and Beer fest going on. It was right on the pier and we saw a few looper boats.

Then we read the story about the Kelly Magnolia. This tree lived to be 170 years old. The people of Destin used it to propagate other trees. Destin town hired an Artist to used its dead base to create this beautiful sculpture it memorialize it.

Nick watched these little dudes for a while and I’m pretty sure it was jealousy.

Found a great spot to relax.

Then we hit the Boathouse! That is where Jack found us! Jack is a Sergeant in the Army and he drove over to visit a short time. He loved this hang out! The dollars on the ceiling were no big deal – it was the many bras.

Here are the several dogs that Nick pet that day…

Ok this video clip of the band doesn’t do it justice. It really was a great band!

We got a bit hungry so we bravely ran across three lanes of traffic while not at the crosswalk in order to get to McGuires. I just want to say – if you go to the bathroom here please be weary of the signs – they are there to trick you!

Then we headed back to the Sandestin Resort to climb on the boat and regroup and make dinner plans.

Dinner – we decided – would be at the Village spot in Sandestin. There are many places there and we can just kind graze. The band was playing at the bandshell and they were all 80s!

They were very good!

We found a dialing piano bar and participated at a very high level.

Then they played our songs.

We had a blast messing with all the good olde boys who love their Vols and LSU and Bama!

We filled our bellies with nachos and chicken wings then moved on to the dance night club. There we found a ton of Marines – it was their anniversary and they must have had a gala event nearby. Jack got a free beer from a Lieutenant Major who said no one noticed in that crowd.

Then I caught Jack and Nick outside playing with their phones.

Quote of the day: Do you know what an LSU grad calls an Norte Dame grad? Boss

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
