Day 208 @ Fairhope Yacht Club, Fairhope, Alabama – The Great Loop Boat Trip

10/23/19

Here we land in Fairhope!

Nick gets the scooters out right away!

Nick stopped for this sign. I think he thought he could cool her off.

And this sculpture reminds us of a sailfish saluting the sun!

In the Alabama tourism book 100th year centennial, I was looking for a nice restaurant to try and this one jumped out at me. It’s one of Fairhope’s oldest restaurants but they only serve breakfast and lunch. We arrived in time for either one.

I got the seafood omelette and Nick got a Ruben Sandwich.

It was just ok. Once we were full it was time to walk the town and see the sites! Gift shops!!!

We found this amazing bookstore! They had a surprisingly large number of author visits and book signings.

It turns out the author who penned Forrest Gump lives in Fairhope. He likes to say how he could live anywhere yet he chooses Fairhope.

Walking around every nook I spotted the “French Quarter”. So cute! It reminds me of the patio portion inside the New Orleans bar Pat O’Briens.

It was a beautiful day and a great walk around the town! We fell in love with this quaint town on a bluff overlooking Mobile Bay. It was named the best Southern Small Town of 2016 by Southern Living Magazine.

Then I walked right near restaurant row! Craft cocktail places and adorable wine bars!

And the number of theater groups was crazy! There is an outdoor theater area on the bluff where they line up chairs for a live performance.

And then the Fairhope Museum. The story of Fairhope is very interesting! It was a utopia thought up by Henry George of Iowa. He moved here along with 28 followers in November of 1894. The were out to create a Single-Tax community.

The building was also pictured inside. This building was used as a police and fire station only a few years ago!

See – no kidding!

This was interesting – a local citizen made this harp for his son. The uniform on the left is a WW I uniform.

Main company in Fairhope?

The jail!

And Nick must crack the safe. He found all the clues planted throughout the museum and came up with the combination!

The history was and famous people that lived in this town went on and on.

On the way back to the Fairhope Yacht Club we saw this sign.

Sunset view from the boat. A shrimp boat was going out to the bay for some evening work?

Then Sarapage came out for a visit! Sarapage moved here from Tampa only 1.5 years ago. It was great catching up with her. I’m so happy for her, sounds like everyone in the family loves their new town!

Good night FYC!

Song of the day: ‘Fairhope’ the song. Yep there is a song and it’s really very nice!!!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!

    1. It was certainly worth the trip. Once we got into Mobile Bay we were racing against the sunset! The whole time concerned to not run aground and always keeping safe (as you know it is shallow in there) and yet wanting to see my friend in Fairhope. We were pleasantly surprised! New favorite spot!
