Day 199 @ Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina, IUKA, Mississippi – The Great Loop Boat Trip

10/14/19

Next day we woke up in Julie and Milton’s home and headed over to Lynchburg, Tennessee! Home of Jack Daniels Distillery!

We got a real treat when Milton revealed that he is a Squire at Jack Daniels. So we got to go into some pretty special areas! We got to hear a knowledgeable employee talk about the families that worked at Jack Daniels. He also gave Milton a glass and a shot glass that he gave us! Very cool! Milton owns 1 square foot of the Jack Daniels distillery.

It was really neat to see this special club!!!

Then we went to the main lobby area where the commoners all go! It was a museum in there! Amazing!

We bought some whiskey and walked the grounds a bit.

This is the couple that can be credited for putting Jack Daniels on the shelf of so many liquor stores! As well, they put Lynchburg Tennessee on the map with this amazing collection of JD memorabilia.

When we went to town we found so much JD stuff for sale. It was hard – we almost got a barrel!

Downtown was adorable! This is the courthouse that is in the middle of the square.

Then the drive to our next stop had us passing the Tims Ford Dam. There is no lock here just a dam and it’s harnessing electricity.

It’s a whiskey makin’ town!!!

Then Milton wanted to show us a Confederate Cemetery. It was a round about way through neighborhoods to get there but we found it. Wow! It was a very moving experience. This was a mass grave not very near battlefields. This town helped soldiers and many died there. The sign at the entrance asked that only Confederate Sympathizers walk on that sacred land.

Then a quick stop at another historical marker.

There was an itty bitty farmers market nearby so we had to just peek in.

Then we headed up the mountain to do some shooting! There was a VERY remote area that had a hunting cabin on it.

I made a comment to Julie that the road was a bit rough and she said it hasn’t gotten bad yet.

Here’s the back patio.

Then we did some shooting!

The targets were paper plates.

I learned a lot about posture, holding the gun and ammunition. This is something I’d like to do more!

Afterwards Julie fixed us a cheese tray and we played Spades on the back porch at her house and enjoyed the sunset! (Nick’s EDIT – – the guys we’re victorious in Spades).

We had some interesting conversations about buddy boats and looper surprises!

All in all it was a terrific two days that we spent in Winchester TN!!!

Quote of the day: I wouldn’t piss on her if she were on fire.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
