Day 196 @ Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina, IUKA, Mississippi – The Great Loop Boat Trip

10/11/19

This morning we had some errands to run so we got the family minivan. No – it’s the Marina courtesy car.

This was in front of the McDonalds in Savannah TN!

We stopped at Hertz to pick up a rental for a few days.

As I drove the car back to Aqua I got to turn it to mile 111,111!!!!

So exciting!

When I returned the keys to the courtesy car I was just in aw of Pickwick Lake! It’s hard to see the beauty in this photo! I wish I had better photography skills! As I’m admiring the view I met the coolest live-aboard people on Moondancer! They are headed our way to Florida!

It started to rain so we took the car to Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center.

The parking low on the hill and the museum is on top of the hill so you have to walk this zigzag path to reach the entrance and there are really neat items left on the ground.

Inside we learned the importance of Corinth to the war. The only North/South railroad intersected with the railroad that was East/West for the Southern states. Both sides fought for control of the “Mississippi River Valley” but most of the soldiers would die here in Corinth and Shiloh along the Tennessee River.

And how did we get here? Not just President Lincoln, but also uprisings and an important book is published “Uncle Toms Cabin”.

Both the Confederacy and the Union generals knew the importance of winning control of Corinth.

This was the laptop, cell phone and brief case back in the day! And people would carve details of their stay on its doors.

The first postcard!

Nick is lovin this exhibit!

The art and statues here were also very moving!

Out back there was an emotional tribute to the entirety of the Civil War.

We left our mark!

This was at the entrance.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
