Day 183 @ Green Turtle Bay, Grand Rivers, Kentucky – The Great Loop Boat Trip

9/28/19

Today is the day we get AIS installed! It’s important to have it on the river since there are several bends where you can’t see what is coming. We asked about AIS when we bought the boat and were told we had it and that it would be turned on for us once we started our trip. That turned out to be yet another item in which we were misled by TGYG. Anyhow, we are getting it today!

Well, the golf cart needed to get some use so I went into town to see what is available.

This small antique shop had just about everything in it!

Just beyond town was the other side of this small peninsula. And another Marina was waiting to be noticed! Mostly sailboats.

Surprisingly this historic marker told me of the coal mines that existed hundreds of years ago. Kentucky was the 3rd largest producer of coal at one point.

Then there was a Jolly Trolly!!!

Found the Grocery store.

The grocery store was well stocked and even had Frog Legs!

Found an ice cream store.

Found an ice cream truck.

And a beautiful tribute to T Lawson – The towns founder and first mayor.

And found another ice cream shop.

Back towards the resort this train track was very cool! Must have been useful during the coal mining days.

Dinner was chicken, zucchini and salad.

Close to a place Nick got a tennis scholarship to – Murray State!

Then we headed to the Yacht club to check it out!

Members can put their boat names on the wall here.

We also checked out the live band at the Thirsty Turtle.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
