Day 182 @ Green Turtle Bay, Grand Rivers, KY – The Great Loop Boat Trip

9/27/19

This was not a long run like the other day but it was beautiful!

It was less than 40 miles to our next destination so we got up slow and made breakfast! We were just in time to watch some of our friends in trawlers head off to Green Turtle Bay. See ya soon!!!

Then we noticed some little friends. They were in the cockpit as well, it’s mating time but this was crazy!

Here is the Paducah docks that were only a year old. So nice! So long!

Looks like they are preparing to expand?

These are large mooring pillars that tugs use in the rivers. This is the first one I’ve seen tipped over.

We found the one and only lock for the day!

We got super lucky and only waited like 10 minutes. One tug came out of the lock with a small load then we went in with this small sailboat.

Then we saw this island with a pile of wood on it.

So when we got in to Green Turtle Bay, I went to the office to check in and I asked the Dockmaster “What is that island with the pile of wood on it.” He replied, “It’s an island with a pile of wood on it.” Turns out the Army Corps of Engineers that run the Locks and Dams use that small island to pile debris on to get it out of the way.

Nick quickly secured a golf cart for our personal use.

We took it exploring around the resort and saw several deer hanging around the meadows.

Which way?

We found the way to the coolest Bar – The Thirsty Turtle!!! we ran into Southern Cross, Gyp C, Dream Seeker and more!

Jacques and Karen put their lives in Nick’s hands on the way home!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
