Day 174 @ Grafton Harbor Marina, Grafton, Illinois – The Great Loop Boat Trip

9/19/19

It was so nice to wake up on our own time instead of “moving the boat” day. I made pancakes for breakfast and then we did a lot of work on the boat. Domestic boat day. Once we took a break from our work we discovered an adorable marina. They like to claim they are “the Key West of the Midwest”. And they might be right.

In the upstairs section of the harbor office was the Grafton Oyster Bar!!!

Views from the Oyster Bar! You can see the Mississippi from there!

My Dads Boat was the Illini. I think he would’ve gotten along very well with this boater!

Shopping at the Marina store did NOT disappoint! We tried the slushy wine while we shopped!

We are very happy we found such a cute spot! We planned an excursion to Chicago for me and Chicago via Detroit for Nick. We wanted to surprise my Mom with one last visit before we headed further South, so we found a 5:30am fight on SWA. We also booked a hotel room right next to the St. Louis Airport so we could get there quickly. But this turned out to be a big problem. There is no Uber or Lyft in Grafton. So we called a few taxi and driving services and to no avail! They all said it was too late for them (it was 7pm)! All our plan might be foiled because we couldn’t seem to get a ride to the airport hotel! Finally, Nick got a guy in Alton to come to Grafton and drive us! Such a dear! We made it to the hotel by 9 pm and got a quick bite at the hotel lobby. Early day tomorrow!!!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
