Day 125 @ Bay Harbor Lake Marina, Petoskey, Michigan – Great Loop Boat Trip

The day started off right! The boat detailers showed before I got movin. Three guys working hard all day!

So we decided to get out of their hair and we grabbed some free bikes at the Harbormasters office and headed to downtown Petoskey. Luckily this area has an amazing bike path! Here is a good look at what I saw on the bike path today.

There were no structures on this path until this one which was very near the downtown area.

Then when we reached downtown we saw some cute homes!

And a firehouse!

This stream was very beautiful and it turns out that there are salmon in that stream especially when it gets even cooler.

Once we reached town we encountered more history.

And also we stopped hard for this sign!

We sat upstairs and had a spectacular view of Lake Michigan!

After lunch and a few craft beers we started back to the marina where we knew a lovely pool was waiting for us!

The views on the bike trail were too beautiful not to photo!

This was in the lake near our marina.

More perfect neighborhood!!!

Once we were back at the boat we were surprised to see the guys all over the boat working hard!

So we again got out of their way and went to the pool.

We found a free trolley that would take us downtown without all the work biking. So we cleaned up for dinner and headed back to downtown.

On Yelp we found a restaurant/pub that is said to have been a favorite spot of Ernest Hemingway when he was vacationing in Walloon Lake. So when we stepped off the trolley and found this hotel we weren’t that surprised.

Hemingway had to be pretty dedicated to this area if he hiked here from Oak Park IL! We just had to walk across a park to get to the spot but look how interesting the park was! An abandoned train track!

More dedication to Hemingway! I heard from the trolley driver (Tom) that a great great grandson of Hemingway still owns property on Walloon Lake.

Finally we spotted our destination! Just in time – we were getting hungry!

As soon as we stepped inside we knew it was a great choice! The ambiance and decor and the people! All top notch!

We both got the fillet mignon!

We really enjoyed that spot! It’s a must see if you are in this town. Then it was back on the Trolley to head home and Tom gave us some great info on the town!

Tom told us how, there is a very exclusive and expensive hotel in our community. At this hotel he has known Johnny Depp and Madonna to visit and stay. Johnny Depp was rumored to have shown up in his full make up and costume from Pirates of the Caribbean. I googled it and Tom is spot on correct! What a fun day and night!

Quote of the day: From Facebook after a picture of Nick was posted – Kurt Kristmann stated “Nick you look happy. I assume they serve drinks by the pool.”

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
