Day 124 @ Bay Harbor Lake Marina, Petoskey, Michigan Great Loop – Boat Trip

Define early. Well, we got another early start! It was 8:30 am when we left Mackinaw City and I had not finished my first cup of coffee. The wind was cold so I mostly stayed inside. I had a sweatshirt on but I was still pretty cold. First order of business we headed for the Mackinac Bridge. The bridge connects Mackinaw City with St. Ignace. St Ignace is on the Upper Peninsula. The city has 2,454 people and 1/3 of which claim Native American heritage. Some Chippewa and some Ottawa tribe. Very impactful!

The Straights of Mackinaw are 3.5 miles wide at its most narrow area. This is the area where hundreds of shipwrecks happen. So many that they aren’t even sure if they have them all recorded. The last, however was in 1965. It was transporting limestone and she turned into the path of another and was struck on the side. First the Captain set anchor then after assessing the damage he tried to beach the boat but she sank about 4 miles from shore.

Once we came upon Bay Harbor Lake Marina – our home for the next few nights. The Garmin had us sailing over land so there is always a question if they are completely accurate. Got in our slip easily and not 20 minutes later the detailers arrived.

These Adirondack chairs overlook our boat!

This is what is behind the chairs.

This is a planned community and it is very cute! We walked through it and here are some great shots of the town.

This is the Main Street with shops and restaurants.

They have everything I could ever want : An Original Pancake House, Wine Bar and a Sports Bar! We started our night at the wine bar Fox & Rose – with Happy Hour and live music!

Then we moved to the Sports Bar. It has great outdoor seating and a very friendly bartender!

The Knot Just a Bar had some kiddie games. I told Nick I wanted a ball. This is love…

Winner winner Chicken dinner!

So then we just used the Adirondack chairs and soaked up the amazing atmosphere!

On our way back we swung by to chat with our newest friends who are also headed to Florida. They just bought the 45 ft Cruiser Cantius. This is the boat we contemplated before we chose the Carver C52.

It was great to hear their stories and see all the features of the new 2019 Cruisers! Beautiful boat! In this photo the girls are standing inside in the kitchen and the boys are on the barstools in the cockpit.

Song of the day: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald By Gordon Lightfoot

Because we weren’t very far from where she went down.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
