Day 123 @ Mackinaw City Marina, Mackinaw City, Michigan – Great Loop Boat Trip

It was another early morning where the coffee wasn’t even finished when we started into the Bay! Here is a moment I had when the sun was rising.

But we must move on and leave Alpena for Mackinaw City. The seas were calm and easy for the first 2 hours of our 4 hour journey. The 3 hour it got rough but then it settled down again for the final hour. On that 3rd hour it was about 4 foot seas.

I tried to get a photo of the many lighthouses we passed but it was not to be. Hey I was able to get this cool postcard of them.

So once we arrived at the Mackinaw City Marina I wasn’t convinced we could fit into the slip they assigned. Another time where Captain Nick impressed me!

The weather was beautiful so we headed out to grab a bite and walk the town. We found The Hook Restaurant and it had a great view.

The history in this town is everywhere!

The town has one park after another.

I found out about a decommissioned light house and a museum so I walked over to see it.

When the Mackinaw Bridge was opened in 1956 this lighthouse was no longer needed because of the lights on the bridge. What a cute interior to this lighthouse!

And the kitchen.

This was the actual light that was in use for 65 years. It could be seen 16 miles out.

Here are a few views from the top.

Then the shipwreck museum was very interesting.

There are at least 15 known shipwrecks that are preserves in the Straits of Mackinaw. The width gets as small as 3.5 miles!

Then we grabbed a Michigan pint at the local saloon.  Dixie Saloon

Sunset on the Lake Huron side.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
