Day 119 @ Thunder Bolt Shores Marina, Alpena, MI USA – Great Loop Boat Trip

Early morning today! We got up at 6:30 am to prepare for an early departure from Tobermory. Here are some sights as we exited Tobermory.

It was quiet on the bay.

Then we got near the car ferry. How cool is this? The bow of the boat opened to let cars in. Lake Huron is unforgiving so we have to take advantage of the calm wind and no chop early today. Lake Huron is the second largest lake being superseded by Lake Superior. There have been more than 1,000 shipwrecks in the lake. We were very lucky to have very calm waters the entire way. Makes life easy on a boat!

When we were about 7 miles out we got on the app and cleared customs.

Back in the USA!

It wasn’t long until we saw land!

The Thunder Bay Shores Marina welcomed us kindly! Jarrett helped up fuel up and get settled! The prices are great and the Marina has great power and is close to everything we need!

We’ve met a ton of people on this trip so far but we were really happy to meet the crew here! We grabbed a rental car and took off for Dave’s new house in Clarkston! The plan is to play Oakland Hills for a few days.

Here is the excursion to Dave’s place.

And now for some men drinking whiskey on the patio. It was wonderful hearing Dave’s father talk about locks he did in the Panama Canal back when he was in the Navy. So much history inside this man! He also talked about his buddy Jack Kevorkian!

His new place is awesome!

It’s complete with a frog saver. Apparently it’s a real thing. They use this to help frogs get out of the pool!

Who knew?

Song of the day: Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
