Day 118 @ Tobermory Harbour, Tobermory, Ontario – Great Loop Boat Trip

No rest for the Aquasition if we want to make it to Michigan soon! We got out of our slip and to the fuel dock to be the first ones there and we beat the employees! After fueling up we saw Coventina – our NY friends with the little green tug. The community and friendships that grow from boaters is awesome! So we headed into Georgian Bay for Tobermory.

Goodbye Queens Cove.

Some beautiful spots here in Victoria Harbour!

We are makin good time!

I wanted to be careful so I texted my float plan to 3 friends. First Amber:

She is so caring! Next Deb…

She makes me feel so supported! Then finally Anne Marie!

What? I guess she has priorities!

The cruise on the bay for the day was mostly uneventful. We lost cell service right away! But just before we did, another new friend sent me pictures from the Big Chute.

These are great pictures! I am so grateful!

The view from the boat was peaceful.

Then we started to approach the cliffs made of granite.

We started seeing homes pretty quickly.

This looked like red granite. We called the marina and asked if we could fuel up first.

Once we were at the fuel docks we had 2 guys and their teenage sons stop over to say hello. They had just found us online and started following the blog! Very nice people! They were from Orillia and definitely great boaters! They were very kind so we invited them on the boat for a tour. It’s likely someone in that group will do the loop someday! Off to our slip. No – we are going to raft off to a docked boat. I didn’t even know it was possible.

This is the swim platform we have to walk across – see it’s broken!

I kept asking the dockhands what we were supposed to do. I was like, hey guys I’ve never rafted up a 52 ft boat – usually it’s a 26 ft boat to raft up. With their guidance we got it done. Then they left us. These are the guys (and one girl) that we’re right across from our boat. They were also rafted up to a boat that was tied off to a dock.

New friends for sure! Then we got out and about town. First order of business – we found the Crows Nest!Sitting on the patio, Nick got recognized! It was a second person who found our blog on the internet! He was bold and just approached us and asked Nick if he was Aquasition!Canoe on the ceiling!

It was a small downtown area but it had enough to do!

I got some postcards at the local bookstore and a new book and then we got an early dinner at the Tobermory Brewery.

Afterwards it was more walking and discovering.

The plaque below mentions La Griffon ship. But it doesn’t mention the de LaSalle was really hoping to find the west route to China and Japan. He never found it and went down with the ill faded ship. He was connected to Tobermory. The Griffon was the largest vessel on the Great Lakes in 1679. It sank on its maiden voyage.

Such history here!

Nick caught me mailing my postcards!

Then we hit the local ice cream spot for a treat.

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!

  1. Love that you guys are becoming celebrities!
Please wear a life vest. I plan on playing on your boat with or without you!😂 And you can stick me in your will too. I’ll take your old spiderweb shoes and faded green speedos😂😂😂
