Our eyes were set on the next town so we packed up and moved on. Goodbye Bobcaygeon!
Lock 32 Bobcaygeon
Lift 5ft
We moved into the lock with 8 other boats and 1 jet ski.

It was about 15 miles between lock 32 and lock 34. Lock 33 is gone – at Fenelon Falls there used to be 2 locks but this lock 34 is new and replaced both 33 and the old 34 locks. We had to tie off on the wall and wait as there were boats locking through when we arrived.

I had a chance to get out and explore a bit while waiting so I got some snapshots of the boat.

That’s when I saw a park dedicated to the Fenelon Falls Lock.

A plaque dedicated to one of Canada’s first “Upper Canada” settlers. John Langton bought 500 acres in 1833. He was Canada’s first Auditor General.

Lock 34 Fenelon Falls
Lift 23.6 ft
I love it when they paint the doors blue.

We moved into the chamber but we weren’t alone.

It’s so strange because when you move in you are 23.6 ft below and you can’t see what is waiting. In this case an audience was waiting.

Cute town! Wish we could’ve stopped but there was no space on the wall.

It was only 4 miles to the next lock but here’s what we saw!

This is part of the Canadian Shield. ![]()

Lock 35 Rosedale
4 ft lift (last ascension – remainder are descending)
Even though this lock is a relatively small lock compared to others – every lock must be taken very seriously! The power of the water is what is happening inside these chambers! This lock was having mechanical issues so we toed off and met some new friends!

Nick had some leftover bacon from my breakfast at the restaurant. Dogs love him!![]()
These dogs were so well behaved! Turns out they are trained service dogs for Autistic people but they didn’t quite pass the schooling. So – basically they are drop outs. ![]()
Our friends Kim and Rick of Seabatical were tied on the other side of the waiting area. ![]()

Since I had time I went to snap some photos!![]()

We got through quickly once they were happy with the repairs.
At Laidlaw Point we entered the “Narrows” it’s the man made Trent Canal. ![]()

Here I’m trying to help. But idk!
![]()
It was beautiful but more narrow than I can depict in photographs. ![]()

This is also very shallow. They do not advise any boat more than 5ft draft. Lucky we are 4 ft draft!![]()

Some of the beautiful nature that surrounds the dangerous rocks. Run aground here and you can’t get Seatow out fast enough! This isn’t mud or sand – it’s rock! And I could see the rock just 2 to 4 feet from our boat on either side!

I’m not sure what Captain Nick is made of – but today his nerves were made of steel!

It was only about 25 feet of width of the 5.5 ft deep water. So the side of water you see here are very shallow and have rocks ready to carve your fiberglass hull!

We did encounter 5 boats headed in the opposite direction. We had called Sécurité on VHF 16 but I guess they felt it ok to let people join us – we did give them our boat size! 52 ft with 16 ft beam in a 25 ft wide channel. That leaves 9 ft!!!!
Lock 36 Kirkfield
49 ft descent

We were in with Seabatical and the smaller boat with the 2 dogs on it. Here is the view.![]()

Then the hydraulic engineering took over and the lockmaster scared me when he said he was moving us down to hold on. I knew that’s what we were doing and the other one like this was bigger but I still got nervous!![]()
Can you see the boats on the other side? They are going up while we go down. ![]()

Time to exit and move on. Here’s what it looks like from afar. ![]()

Next up – we read about this in the Waterways Guide and I was excited to see it! It’s called the hole in the wall bridge. ![]()

Once we started descending the channel markers reversed – red is now Port and green Starboard.
We got to our marina (Sunset Cove Marina in Bolston) and had a drink! What a day! Up 32.6 ft and down 49 ft! And through a labyrinth of narrow passages!
