Day 114 @ The Wall at Lock 32 Parks Canada, Bobcaygeon, Ontario

Well another relaxing day in a very relaxed town! After we wartched Lowry win The Open we walked around for another look and some friendly interaction! Everything was open on a Sunday! We went into the Bigleys Shoe store and Nick found some great new running shoes and a cool T-shirt. It’s nice to see him pick out and buy things for himself because that rarely happens. Afterwards we hung out at the sports bar.

I did a little research about this particular lock. This lock was the first of the series of 46 locks made. Today only 44 are in operation, 2 of the lock became unnecessary as water levels changed. This area was chosen for the first lock because it laid claim to the 3rd largest logging company in all of Northern Canada. The locks were originally thought of for military purposes then commercial reasons. By the time all the locks were completed (89 yrs) they were too small for commercial traffic and logging was transported by railway. They are used for pleasure boats! I took a video from the top of the lock.

Maybe this explains it best.

Samuel de Champlain passed through this area and gave Bobcaygeon it’s name back in 1516. Bobcaygeon means “beautiful hedged farmland” in French. Even today Bobcaygeon is the hub for the Kawartha Region. Why they named the region after this delicious ice cream we found here, I do not know.

But we found the dairy!

It was a blast taking the electric scooters to the dairy! Everyone just stared!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
