We made it! 8 locks in 7 hours and we did it! We had a late start because we said goodbye to our good friends Lowell and Jean!

After they left for the airport at 10am we took off on our long day in the Trent Severn Waterway System. We moved from the Trent region to the Kawartha Region.

Our first lock of the day was over 35 miles after we departed Hastings.

At this point we were makin good time so we decided to push forward. But we had no idea what was up next.
Lock 21 Peterborough Lift Lock
65 ft lift
Yep – I got that correct, it is 65 foot! This is the worlds highest hydraulic lift lock. We floated in a sort of pool while other boats did the same on the other side. They went down while we went up. The views at the top were gorgeous! In 1904 when it was built it was a engineering marvel! The top pool is filled with one foot of extra water which weighs about 130 tons more than the other pool. It weighs itself down the hydraulic while pushing our side up. Here are some photos.![]()
This guy was inside when we approached.
