Day fifty six @ Waterside Marina, Norfolk, VA

Early morning!!!! Departure was 7:30 am and we hit that mark. We had a wonderful run. Started out choppy but got smoother as we went along the Virginia Pass.

After we passed the Albemarle Sound we heard on the VHF ch 16 (US Coast Guard Ch) a MayDay call. A man in a trawler said he had not seen his wife for 1 hour and 30 minutes. He was turning back to back track his route to find her. She was a 79 year old with blonde hair and a red shirt. We were all scared and considered going back to the sound too. We all kept a lookout. He said he was going thru the sound from Alligator River when he noticed he hadn’t heard from her. He looked and she had left evidence of her having been on the boat but he couldn’t find her. The Coast Guard asked several questions but one was if she was a strong swimmer. Albemarle Sound was 3 to 4 ft chop today. The concern dissipated when he announced after about 3 hours and helicopter dispensed that she was sick and locked in the head. Pictures of that area.

A serious day for sure.

Then we did our first lock. It was ascending by about 4 to 6 feet. It was easy peasy. Jeff let Miss Piggy out for a quick potty break during the lock time. Which I thought was very impressive by both Jeff and Miss Piggy! Then there were the bridges. You’ve heard of the Bridges of Madison Co. these are the Bridges of Virginia angry Bridge masters.

Railroad bridge #6

It was a trying time for us, Breakaway, Dorado from Stuart FL and Clamaholic, from Palm Beach FL.

Surprised to have gotten her docked only to almost lose control because the dockhands didn’t tie up properly.

Then the Martha and her Frank showed up.

We popped the Dom to celebrate the upcoming nuptials!!!

Best time ever!!!!

Teri is a retired CFO and Nick is a partner in a private equity firm. We are both very irrelevant in the business worlds. We jumped up to a 52 foot boat because we were in need of more adventure. We are on the Great Loop around the East Coast of North America. It's been a wild ride!
